Tangier-Tétouan
was a former Moroccan region, and one of the sixteen regions of Morocco before the territorial division of 20154. It becomes the new Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region by integrating the province of Al Hoceima.
It is located at the northwestern tip of Morocco, in the Rif mountain range. Its area was 11,570 km2 for a population of 2,470,372 inhabitants in 20065. Its capital was the city of Tangier.
The region is bathed by the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.
Administrative organisation
While each region of Morocco usually corresponds to a wilaya, that of Tangier-Tétouan comprises two, grouping together the following prefectures and provinces:
